I am going to start going to the batting cages every day. Do I need a baseball or softball bat?

I heard about metal cores in the baseballs. Are the baseballs actually baseballs or are they softballs? I played baseball for 7 years and haven’t picked it up for 11.

If you’re hitting baseballs then definitely use a baseball bat only. Baseballs can dent and ruin a softball bat in no time because softball bats are typically made of "softer" metal alloy than baseball bats.
Both would probably do well, obviously, if you were a baseball player, a baseball bat should be a bat of your choice.
I would recommend using a baseball bat, especially if you use baseballs and since you used to play baseball you will be more used to a baseball bat than a softball bat
The ones I have been to have balls that are bigger than baseball size
so I’d suggest a softball bat.
Get one for the type of balls you will be hitting. I would recommend though, getting a cheap metal bat. Going to the cage everyday will be hell on a bat, and you don’t want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on something that’s just going to be used for practice. You could also use a wood bat, but I found that those only last a couple of sessions in a cage before they’re cracked and ruined.
