Can girls play baseball in high school on a boys team?

I really want to play baseball this year but the only leagu we have for baseball is a boys team at my local high school. They say I can’t do it. Is it illegal for them to discriminate against sex when it is the only league open, I mean we have softball, but that isn’t till fall and I want to play baseball.
Yes, the ACLU has guaranteed or will guarantee through class action law suits that any girl will be allowed to play in any activity that has typically been designated as exclusively boys teams, activities or clubs.
Doesn’t work in reverse though, boys are not entitled to participate in all girls clubs, teams or activities.
Like this ludicrous lawsuit where a girl wanted to join the Boy Scouts.

I’m pretty sure they can but I guess it all depends on the league and the school. I know some girls who actually wrestle on a boy’s team so you just need to check with your school.
im sure you could have you talked to the principal? or see if there is a non school league that you could join.
you have to be allowed to play. i mean, baseball and softball are different sports anyways. if baseball is your sport, then try out. make sure your parents are there to back you up incase the team tries to not let you play on it! you go !
have a talk with the principal and try to work things out to let girls on the bball team or try to get a softball team.
if it doesnt work try to work things out with the coach and do something for him to believe that you girls are good enough.
take risks and try your hardesttt.

My school doesn’t allow it…..By why not try anyways…We are just as good if not better, and it’s not like it’s anymore dangerous then softball…We could always play little league on the baseball team anyways what’s the difference? I hate sexist people anyways….
No, you can play…you just need to get ahold of the school board. They will over ride a coach. However, be careful what you stir up. Sometimes that can mean you being scrutinized and still be discriminate towards you. Like you show up to every practice, yet you don’t get to play. Or make an example out of you and you end up doing laps the whole practice.
It’s been done before. As far as I know, they can’t stop you if you really want to play. Of course, you will have to prove that you’re good enough. But should you prove that you are good enough, I’m quite certain that they’d have to make room for you on the team. Good luck to you…
send in an editorial to the local newspaper, and give a quick call to the loval news station. then you probably wont even have to try out, youll be in! ahha,i dont know why they are saying you cant, have you actually tried, or did you just ask a few kids around? we had a girl on the football team…
I would say no because then the boys would be allowed to touch the girls on the chest to tag them out. and when a girl slides then they might think they want to ****? Cross gender sports might not be the best of Ideas. boys play harder then females. Yet tend to be rougher in game play. Not saying girls can’t to. I am saying girls would get hurt if they played against boys. male also tend to be stronger (muscule wise)?.
I myself love baseball and everything about, but stuff like this happens a lot of the time too. Politics are part of baseball as the whole nation has noticed, but I’m not sure that your school is allowed to do this. I don’t know a lot about the situation and I’m not sure if they can do this or not, but you can try proving yourself to them and that might help.
I know the answer to this question as a fact. My daughter wanted to play baseball in middle school so I went up and talked to the principal and he told me that YES she would be permitted (providing she made the team, of course) to join the baseball team because they did not offer baseball for girls. They did, however, offer softball. So my daughter was going to try out for the baseball team. On her way, the atheletic director approached her and told her he thought it would be in her best interests to join the High School softball team. So she was so excited to be on a high school team in seventh grade. Needless to say, she made the highschool team and was the starting shortstop for six years. She also had to get some kind of waivers which she did.
But to answer your question, YES you can try out for the baseball team and if you are good enough and better than the boys, you WILL make it.

You can’t play on a boys team but if you get enough girls who want to play baseball they will have to make a girls baseball team.

I feel like if they offer softball for girls you should not be allowed to try out. I am not sexist. I just think that they separate the boys and girls sports for a reason. If they didn’t offer softball then yea ….go for it.
Like one person said…they don’t let the boys try out for the girls sports . So shouldn’t the boys have something to call their own as long as the girls have softball?

Yes, by law a woman cannot be denied the opportunity to at the very least try out for the team. If she is good enough to make the team she will certainly have the right to play.
